Overview

Plan, direct, and oversee the daily operations of the Transportation, Sustainability Center, and Aftermarket operations. This position is responsible and will be held accountable for behaving in accordance with divisional and organizational RISE values and expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Direct and manage the transportation and vehicle maintenance program. Oversee maintenance of all owned vehicles. Ensure safe and efficient operation of the transportation department.
2. Receive and store product by designing and developing product movement and storage systems; improving Sustainability Center operations; passing safety audits, and managing staff.
3. Administer transportation, warehouse, and salvage budgets, including purchasing and invoicing, to ensure that programs are cost-effective and that funds are managed wisely.
4. Oversee relationships with all salvage vendors and work with the Chief Community Impact & Sustainability Officer to oversee all sustainability partnerships, and develop new relationships.
5. Lead the execution of current sustainability initiatives and the implementation of new sustainability initiatives (inclusive of waste elimination and recycling).
6. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate all transportation and sustainability center personnel to optimize the processing of donations and maximize sales. Work closely with the senior retail leadership team to ensure that all stores and e-commerce receive products when needed.
7. Participate in strategic planning to develop a realistic budget and goals, and monitor payroll and other expenses to ensure adherence to the allocated budget.
8. Generate and analyze reports, KPIs, site visits, and customer/donor input to determine the sales plan to maximize revenue.
9. Create standard operating procedures that govern the transportation/sustainability environment and effectively delegate and follow up on the implementation of those procedures.
10. Ensure transportation, Sustainability Center, and salvage disciplines are in place to maximize revenue and optimize productivity.
11. Oversee donation express locations, mobile trailers, outlet operations, and ADC sites as applicable.
12. Participate in organizational strategic initiatives.

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities
1. Solicit and analyze bids from vendors. Create strong professional relationships with outside vendors.
2. Interface with the Human Resources department on all personnel issues, including hiring, firing, disciplinary actions, staffing, and promotions.
3. Partner with the Finance department to ensure proper accounting with vendors.
4. Report out to VP, CIO, CCISO, and CEO as necessary.
5. Other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has supervisory responsibility for the Transportation Coordinators, Warehouse Manager, Truck Drivers (with assistance of Transportation Coordinators), and Outlet and ADC managers, where applicable.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:


1. Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field. A Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation or logistics operations may substitute for the educational requirement.

2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation or logistics operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing fleet operations.

3. Demonstrated experience overseeing a fleet of trucks, including vehicle maintenance programs, routing, and scheduling.

4. Proven ability to manage DOT compliance and safety training for CDL and non-CDL drivers.

5. Experience in route optimization, load planning, and cost reduction strategies.

6. This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for frequent travel within the DC Metropolitan area.

7. Flexibility in work hours and the ability to work nights and/or weekends is essential to this position.

8. High level of organizational skills

9. Understanding of both the front end and production side of retail operations

10. Experience analyzing retail and/or transportation budgets.

11. Excellent communication skills

12. Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite

13. Excellent customer service and employee relations skills
14. Ability to work with staff at all levels.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

1. OSHA certification

2. Six sigma certification

3. Forklift certification
